32.1Book XXXII, verse 1

Sanskrit

तद् एवाग्निस् तद् आदित्यस् तद् वायुस् तद् उ चन्द्रमाः ।
तद् एव शुक्रं तद् ब्रह्म ता ऽ आपः स प्रजापतिः ॥

English Griffith 1899

AGNI is That; the Sun is That; Vâyu and Chandramâs are
That.
The Bright is That; Brahma is That, those Waters, that
Prajâpati.

32.2Book XXXII, verse 2

Sanskrit

सर्वे निमेषा जज्ञिरे विद्युतः पुरुषाद् अधि ।
नैनमूर्ध्वं न तिर्यञ्चं न मध्ये परि जग्रभत् ॥

English Griffith 1899

All twinklings of the eyelid sprang from Purusha,
resplendent One.
No one hath comprehended him above, across, or in the
midst.

32.3Book XXXII, verse 3

न तस्य प्रतिमा ऽ अस्ति यस्य नाम महद् यशः ।
हिरण्यगर्भ ऽ इत्य् एषः ।
मा मा हिꣳसीद् इत्य् एषा ।
यस्मान् न जात ऽ इत्य् एष ॥

English Griffith 1899

There is no counterpart of him whose glory verily is great.
In the beginning rose Hiranyagarbha, etc. Let not him
harm me, etc. Than whom there is no other born, etc.

32.4Book XXXII, verse 4

एषो ह देवः प्रदिशो ऽनु सर्वाः पूर्वो ह जातः स ऽ उ गर्भे ऽ अन्तः ।
स ऽ एव जातः स जनिष्यमाणः प्रत्यङ् जनास् तिष्ठति सर्वतोमुखः ॥

English Griffith 1899

This very God pervadeth all the regions; yea, born aforetime,
in the womb he dwelleth.
He verily born and to be born hereafter meeteth his offspring,
facing all directions.

32.5Book XXXII, verse 5

यस्माज् जातं न पुरा किं चनैव य आबभूव भुवनानि विश्वा ।
प्रजापतिः प्रजया सꣳरराणस् त्रीणि ज्योतीꣳषि सचते स षोडशी ॥

English Griffith 1899

Before whom naught whatever sprang to being; who with
his presence aids all living creatures,
Prajâpati, rejoicing in his offspring, he, Shodasî, maintains
the Three great Lustres.

32.6Book XXXII, verse 6

Sanskrit

येन द्यौर् उग्रा पृथिवी च दृढा येन स्व स्तभितं येन नाकः ।
यो ऽ अन्तरिक्षे रजसो विमानः कस्मै देवाय हविषा विधेम ॥

English Griffith 1899

By whom the heavens are strong and earth stands firmly,
by whom light's realm and sky-vault are supported;
By whom the regions in mid-air were measured. What
God shall we adore with our oblation?

यं क्रन्दसी ऽ अवसा तस्तभाने ऽ अभ्यैक्षेतां मनसा रेजमाने ।
यत्राधि सूर ऽ उदितो विभाति कस्मै देवाय हविषा विधेम ।
आपो ह यद् बृहतीः ।
यश् चिद् आपः ॥

English Griffith 1899

To whom, supported by his help, two armies embattled look
while trembling in their spirit,
Where over them the risen Sun is shining. What God shall
we adore with our oblation?
What time the mighty waters, etc. He in his might surveyed, etc.

32.8Book XXXII, verse 8

वेनस् तत् पश्यन् निहितं गुहा सद् यत्र विश्वं भवत्य् एकनीडम् ।
तस्मिन्न् इदꣳ सं च वि चैति सर्वꣳ स ऽ ओतः प्रोतश् च विभूः प्रजासु ॥

English Griffith 1899

The Sage beholdeth That mysterious Being wherein this
All hath found one only dwelling.
Therein unites the Whole, and thence it issues: far-spread it
is the warp and woof in creatures.

32.9Book XXXII, verse 9

प्र तद् वोचेद् अमृतं नु विद्वान् गन्धर्वो धाम विभृतं गुहा सत् ।
त्रीणि पदानि निहिता गुहास्य यस् तानि वेद स पितुः पितासत् ॥

English Griffith 1899

Knowing Eternity, may the Gandharva declare that station,
parted, kept in secret.
Three steps thereof in mystery are hidden: he who knows
these shall be the father's father.

32.10Book XXXII, verse 10

Sanskrit

स नो बन्धुर् जनिता स विधाता धामानि वेद भुवनानि विश्वा ।
यत्र देवा ऽ अमृतम् आनशानास् तृतीये धामन्न् अध्य् ऐरयन्त ॥

English Griffith 1899

He is our kin, our Father and Begetter: he knows all beings
and all Ordinances,
In whom the Gods obtaining life eternal have risen upward
to the third high station.

32.11Book XXXII, verse 11

परीत्य भूतानि परीत्य लोकान् परीत्य सर्वाः प्रदिशो दिशश् च ।
उपस्थाय प्रथमजाम् ऋतस्यात्मनात्मानम् अभि सं विवेश ॥

English Griffith 1899

Having encompassed round existing creatures, the world;
and all the Quarters and Mid-quarters,
Having approached the first-born Child of Order he with his
Self into The Self hath entered.

परि द्यावापृथिवी सद्य ऽ इत्वा परि लोकान् परि दिशः परि स्वः ।

Having gone swiftly round the earth and heaven, around
the worlds, around the sky, the Quarters,
Having spread out the lengthened thread of Order, he views,
and he becomes and is That Being.

32.13Book XXXII, verse 13

सदसस् पतिम् अद्भुतं प्रियम् इन्द्रस्य काम्यम् ।
सनिं मेधाम् अयासिषꣳम् स्वाहा ॥

To the Assembly's wondrous Lord, to Indra's lovely Friend
who gives
Wisdom. have I drawn near in prayer.

32.14Book XXXII, verse 14

Sanskrit

यां मेधां देवगणाः पितरश् चोपासते ।
तया माम् अद्य मेधयाग्ने मेधाविनं कुरु स्वाहा ॥

English Griffith 1899

That wisdom which the Companies of Gods, and Fathers,
recognize,
Even with that intelligence, O Agni, make me wise to-day.
All-hail!

32.15Book XXXII, verse 15

मेधां मे वरुणो ददातु मेधाम् अग्निः प्रजापतिः ।
मेधाम् इन्द्रस् च वायुश् च मेधां धाता ददातु मे स्वाहा ॥

English Griffith 1899

Varuna grant me wisdom! grant it Agni and Prajâpati!
Wisdom may Indra, Vâyu grant. May the Creator grant it
me. All-hail!

32.16Book XXXII, verse 16

Sanskrit

इदं मे ब्रह्म च क्षत्रं चोभे श्रियम् अश्नुताम् ।
मयि देवा दधतु[ दधवु ] श्रियम् उत्तमां तस्यै ते स्वाहा ॥

English Griffith 1899

Let these the Priests and Nobles both enjoy the splendour
that is mine.
Best splendour may the Gods bestow on me. To thee, that
splendour, hail!
